There is also a fee payable;before applying it is best to contact the police to ensure you have all the paperwork they require and check the current fee.
Health
Yellow fever vaccinations are mandatory and, if you are unable to provide proof (i.e. a yellow fever vaccination card) you may have to pay for it, and receive the vaccination at the airport.
Health care standards are quite good in Dakar. There is the main 'Hôpital Principal' and several clinics that offer good treatment. Please click here to access the British Embassy list of doctors.
You should be aware that most clinics do not accept medical insurance cover as a guarantee of payment; they normally ask for a down payment prior to admittance.
French medications are widely available and there are many pharmacies both in Dakar and the rest of the country.
ID
Senegalese law states that everyone must carry some form of ID at all times, and the police have the right to stop anyone to request this without cause. A copy of your passport, or your driving licence are acceptable forms of ID.
Education
There are a few English-speaking/bilingual schools in Dakar. The main anglophone school is the International School of Dakar, which follows the American system-please see www.isd.sn. There are no schools that follow the British school system. The main bilingual school (3-11 years) is the "Ecole Actuelle Bilingue" - please see www.ecole-actuelle-bilingue.com. Both these schools are located in Fenêtre Mermoz.
