Visas

Nationals of Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Mali and Cape Verde need a visa to enter, or transit through the UK. If you are a national of another country, find out if you need a visa by using our Do I need a UK visa? Questionnaire .

Nationals of Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Mali and Cape Verde should apply for visas online at www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk .  The forms should be printed and brought to the Visa Section of the British Embassy in Dakar and the British High Commission in Banjul. Nationals of other countries should apply for UK visas in the country where they are normally and legally resident.

Please ensure you apply for a visa well in advance of your planned travel. Our Frequently Asked Questions has lots of information to help you make your visa application. Depending on your travel history and the type of visa you want it will take a minimum of 10 working days to process your visa application; in many cases it will take 15 working days.

If you must travel a long distance to the British Embassy in Dakar, please contact us  before you start your journey for any important information that may affect you. Please be aware that the Visa Section is closed on public holidays .
