Funding opportunities

Got a project and looking for funding? If the issues you are working are the same as the issues we are working on, here is an opportunity for you to partner with us!

What exactly is the Bilateral Fund?

The Bilateral Fund helps us work with local partners on issues that are priorities for us both.  We can fund small projects implemented by NGOs and community groups.  Our four key issues are:

Preventing and resolving conflict

  • Tackling the causes of conflict by promoting and developing human rights, democracy and good governance
  • Encouraging a quick and effective reaction to emerging conflicts and supporting post-conflict peace-keeping and stabilisation

Countering terrorism, weapons proliferation and their causes

  • Reducing the risk of support for terrorism and of radicalisation by promoting the shared values of religious diversity, tolerance and understanding

Managing migration

  • Reducing the risk of illegal immigration by helping to tackle its causes

Promoting a low carbon, high growth economy

  • Reducing the threat of increased instability and insecurity as a result of climate change by promoting and supporting initiatives to
    • tackle climate change
    • adapt to its effects on the local environment and
    • increase local and national debate of climate change issues

For examples of work we are already supporting please see Working with Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Mali.

What information do we need to consider your project?

Just complete the bidding form and email it back to us. The bidding form MUST be completed in English and MUST include an activity-based budget.

What should you know about budget and funding limits?

The Bilateral Fund is a small budget. Although no maximum amounts are specified it is unlikely that projects of more than FCFA 20 million per year will be approved. Co-funding with other donors or NGOs is possible and encouraged.  Implementing organisations must have bank accounts.

What is the deadline for applications?

The Bilateral Fund budget follows the British financial year (April to March). Funding is generally committed in April. Applications for the Bilateral Fund 2010/11 opened on 1 November and the deadline for project submission is January 15.
