UK’s contribution to the funding of the Presidential election in Guinea-Bissau
The United Kingdom granted a contribution amounting to £100,000 for the funding of the presidential election in Guinea-Bissau. HE Christopher Trott, British Ambassador to Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mali and Cape Verde and HE Ms. Giuseppina Mazza, Resident Representative of the United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP) in Guinea-Bissau signed the agreement.
This contribution, which is the equivalent of over CFA70 million, adds to donations from other bilateral and multilateral partners that reacted quickly to consolidate the democratic process in that African country.
On this occasion, Ms Mazza praised the United Kingdom’s quick reaction to the appeal issued by the Guinea-Bissau Government and UNDP. The British Ambassador emphasised the importance that the UK attaches to this election, seen as a key element towards the strengthening of the rule of law in Guinea Bissau.
